Act Today

"A good plan today is better than a great plan tomorrow."
George S. Patton

It's better to get things done today even if you don't have the best plan as to how you are going to do it. Waiting till tomorrow may be too late.

We all know that procrastination isn't a good thing. Many of us do it anyway. The biggest problem with putting things off until tomorrow is the way you will feel if tomorrow never comes. Imagine how you'd feel if you put off saying something important to a special person, and they died before you could tell them it?

Another problem with procrastination is that if you wait till the last minute to do something, then you may not have enough time to do your best work. You may feel anxious and rushed, and unable to think clearly. If you procrastinate, you will be thinking about what you need to do, instead of what you are doing now, or should be doing now.

If you do something right away, you can take the time you need to concentrate on doing your best work, (and you may also have time to learn from your mistakes) and then forget about it as you move on to the next thing that needs to be done. It is a better, more efficient use of your time.

Where are you going?

"It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going."
Brian Tracy

It is easy to complain that your parents didn't bring you up the way they should have, and that is why you are in the mess that you are in. Most of us come from a family with at least some dysfunction. It is important to understand that your parents were doing the best that they knew how, based on the way that their parents brought them up. Those of us who are parents know how easy it is to do something "wrong", and how unforgiving children are when we do.

The problem, however, with blaming our parents, or any other past circumstances, for our current situation is that it leaves us a victim, powerless to change. All that matters is where we are going. We have to start from somewhere so we start from where we are, whether we like that place or not. There is no point trying to think about how we got here; we should save our energy to consider where we want to be, and then how to get from here to where we want to be.
