Where are you going?

"It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going."
Brian Tracy

It is easy to complain that your parents didn't bring you up the way they should have, and that is why you are in the mess that you are in. Most of us come from a family with at least some dysfunction. It is important to understand that your parents were doing the best that they knew how, based on the way that their parents brought them up. Those of us who are parents know how easy it is to do something "wrong", and how unforgiving children are when we do.

The problem, however, with blaming our parents, or any other past circumstances, for our current situation is that it leaves us a victim, powerless to change. All that matters is where we are going. We have to start from somewhere so we start from where we are, whether we like that place or not. There is no point trying to think about how we got here; we should save our energy to consider where we want to be, and then how to get from here to where we want to be.
