"You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."
R. Buckminster Fuller
How many times have you wished that conditions would be different? That something would just end, or go away? Most of us do that continually all day long. We hear about another soldier killed in the war and wish the war would end. Perhaps we wish all wars would end and no new ones be started. We are, in this case, focused on how terrible war is, and how sad it is that so many people are being killed. Now we are focused on people being killed and this is even worse.
The amazing thing in this situation is that very few people focus on peace. We are all trying to figure out how to end the war, but few people are trying to figure out how to create peace. It is much easier for us to see what actually is than for us to see what we would like to be there in its place. It is also much easier for us to focus on what we don't want than one the things we do want. Both of these tendencies together create a situation where we amplify or make worse anything we see around us that we don't like.
It is pointless to try to change things by fighting the existing reality. When you fight with some opponent, you can't help but be very aware of them and of their menace. And the more you focus on your oppontent, the more strength you give them. The way to change what is is to focus on something better. Focus on what you want, and give your strength to it. Build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.
