Meaning

What you do every day should contribute to giving your life meaning. If it doesn't, why are you doing it?
Don Hutcheson

Have you ever given any thought to why you do the things you do every day? Do you do things because they come up and they need to be dealt with? Do you do things because other people told you that you should? Do you do things because you want to impress others in some way?
Do you do things because you're too tired to do anything else, or because you need to fill in the time with something?

For most people, their actions become as automatic as their thoughts. They think the same things over and over and they do the same things over and over; and since they are unaware of their thoughts, they are unaware of the reason for their actions. Something they haven't given any thought to is what gives their life meaning. What are you here for? What do you want to accomplish with your life? Most people can't really answer those questions.

The first thing to do is to determine your mission in life. What would you want to be remembered for? The next thing is to determine how everything you are doing now fits in with that mission. If it fits in, continue doing it. If it doesn't fit in, stop doing it and find something more useful to do.

For all the hours we spend watching television every day, do we know the real reason why we watch it? How much does it help you acheive anything? How many things does it prevent you from doing that would help you accomplish what you want to get done more effectively? Turn off that television and go out and do something meaningful, something that really satisfies you.
