Change

"Change brings opportunities when people have been planning for it, are ready for it, and have just the thing in mind to do when the new state comes into being."
Rosabeth Moss Kanter

It is only when change is unexpected that it causes problems. We should be expecting change because we know that everything is constantly changing. "In this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes." (Benjamin Franklin). Perhaps what trips us up most is knowing what that change will be likely to be. We tend to miss the clues given to us along the way. We are often so busy trying to deal with what's happening around us right now that we don't really think about the future.

We fear change. We tend to assume that the future will be even worse than it is today. But that is a bad attitude. Change is often for the better. The secret is in being aware enough to anticipate the possibilities and opportunities of the new state, and being prepared to take advantage of them. In order to be successful, you need to expect change, pay attention to the clues of what it is likely to be, and plan for it; then when it happens you can seize the day.
