Desire and Resolution

"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other thing"
Abraham Lincoln

Any success begins with the desire to succeed. But, as you probably know, it is not enough just to wish for success. After all, we all want success. It takes a burning desire; a passion. You have to say to yourself "I will succeed or die" You have to cut off your escape routes, and make it impossible for yourself to quit.

The road to anything worth having is strewn with obstacles and roadblocks, and the person who succeeds must find a way around these. Most of us tend to reach the first obstacle and then give up, saying "See, I knew I wouldn't be able to do it" . It takes burning desire to be able to get around these obstacles without quitting.

Think about this. If your family was trapped in your house and there was a huge nasty growling monster guarding the door, would you go in anyway and try to rescue them? Probably you'd be too afraid of him. Now, what about if he was still there but a fire started in the house. Probably, you wouldn't care about the monster any more because all you'd be thinking of is rescuing your family from the fire. That's why you would succeed in getting them out of there. That's the power of a burning desire.
