Desire

"Count not thyself to have found true peace, if thou hast felt no grief; nor that then all is well if thou hast no adversary; nor that this is perfect, if all things fall out according to thy desire."
Honoré de Balzac

We tend to treat things we don't like as just things to get away from as fast as possible. We fight with them, push them away, and try to ignore them. We try to change any conditions we see as being responsible for them. We do anything other than see them for what they really are.

Things we don't like can actually be useful to us. It's all about attitude. Once we have established that fact that we don't like something, we can conclude that what we really want is it's opposite. It is very difficult for us to know what we really want until we have experienced it's opposite. And if you don't know what you really want, then your life has no direction or meaning.

The other reason that things we don't like can be beneficial is because if we have never experienced greif, then we can't appreciate joy. If we have never experienced failure, then we can't appreciate success. We all know from experience that success is much sweeter if it has been long and difficult in coming. The sweetest successes come out of overcoming the greatest difficulties and obstacles.

Recognize that the things you don't like and don't want are actually gifts from God. They tell you what you do want and help make it much more satisfying and enjoyable when you finally get that thing. Don't just run away from them but stop and think about how they can help you succeed.
